The project includes testing of experimental fishing within the AMP "Egadi" with
involvement of 6 boats belonging to the navies of Trapani, Favignana and Marettimo, to test the effectiveness of trammel modified by the insertion of a "Greek" (a band network to gillnets with a mesh of large size) on the portion
bottom which comes into contact with the bottom, in order to reduce the accidental capture of species not directly subject to fishing or non-commercial (crustaceans, echinoderms, etc.), to increase the sustainability and selectivity of the most used by
vessels operating in the area. The project will be carried out by the OP under the scientific advice of the CNR-IAMC Mazara
del Vallo and with the contribution of researchers of the territory which will act as observers on board fishing vessels.
For the Director of the AMP, Stefano Donati "The strength of the project, aimed at
sustainability of commercial fishing, is the fact that the promoters of the initiative are just fishing operators, tangible sign of the success of the management strategy based on dialogue between the parties, implemented by the Marine Protected Area along with the world of fishing.">
